Eurasian pygmy owl
(oil on canvas 18x24cm, wooden frame) - The Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum) may be small, but it is also a fierce little predator of boreal forests. Barely larger than a thrush, it hunts by day as well as dusk, flashing bright yellow eyes and white speckles through the dark firs. Each time I saw it in the wild, I was bewitched by its intense, charismatic presence, unafraid of humans and rather curious.
